In July, 2006, nofinishline and I took a vacation ride to Iowa. The ride took 15 days with our furthest point east being the Iowa/Illinois border where we visited the Field of Dreams in Dyersville, IA and spent a couple of days at her birth town of Burlington, IA. Originally we planned this trip as a "World's Largest" tour, picking some spots such as the world's largest Beagle, the world's largest Penguin, the world's largest strawberry, and so on. We made sure the first half of our trip was finding these gems in the areas we hadn't yet ridden as we made our way to the Field of Dreams. It turned out to be the perfect strategy for a mind blowing adventure!
Along the way we saw 13 states, multiple National Parks (Yellowstone, Glacier, Wind Caves, Badlands, Capital Reef, Bryce Canyon, Zion, Badlands, Death Valley, Yosemite, etc...) and several National Monuments such as Little Big Horn where Custer had his last stand. Bear Tooth Pass, The Grand Staircase, The Salmon River, and several other incredible places along the way provided scenery I wasn't even aware was available. Expanding our riding out of the Northwest and Northern California showed us that there is definitely a world of incredible roads we have just begun to attack.
We are already planning similar adventures for the next couple of years. The deep south, the eastern seaboard, and New England will be conquered in the coming years. Clicking on the links below will give you a day by day narrative of our journey that simply blew our minds and gave us reaffirmation that our sense of adventure pays big dividends.
